Baseball Cards were first produced in the United States, but soon spread to other countries.
Sets appeared in Japan as early as 1898, in Cuba as early as 1909 and in Canada as early as 1912.

Rookie Card: a subjective term generally used to refer to an athlete's first appearance on a trading card.
Collectors place a higher value on these first appearances, which generally hold more value than later, subsequent card issues.

In 2007 a near mint-mint professionally graded and authenticated T206 Honus Wagner, was sold to a private collector for $2.35 million.
It is believed to be the highest price ever paid for a baseball card of any kind.
